Site Promotion Information
A few words from Emma to get you started!

It's
imperative to think of the search engine
optimization process as a long-term
investment for your site, so take your time investing
in your
future success:
When asked to create a site that will then be more likely to gain a
high search engine raking I would always consider site promotion
BEFORE I start building the site
- not afterwards.
So don't ask a designer to build you a site
- and then take it to a site promo specialist- more often than not
they will need to change it to get a better ranking!
Ideally choose a designer who is ALSO a site promotion expert.
And try not to get persuaded you to need to
spend thousands of dollars to get a highly ranked site
Obviously if you have a niche- and there aren't millions of
people offering the same type of service (eg real estate)
you'll have an easier job
getting on the top page with google.
I would always suggest that people consider finding a gap
in the market when setting up a business in any case.
But - as an example- if you go to google and type in
'child behaviour advice' one of our sites
is on the first page - number 1 usually - you don't even need to put in a country- and we achieve this through
honest (and cheap) methods. Book a session with us and we will take a look at your site and tell you what we suggest you do- $125 per hour
But first please read the following!
Thoroughly research your keyword phrases (you can use the
paid versions of
Wordtracker or KeywordDiscovery etc.)
Keyword research is completely and
utterly the key to
everything that is search marketing.
Think about what keywords people are going to type in to
google etc in order to find your site. Remember that you are
looking for people that will come to your site and find what they
want- its no good using keywords etc to bring more traffic.
Its not the number of hits you get that's important- its the
number of unique visitors (ie individual, different surfers) that
actually want what you are selling! Ask your friends and family
- what keywords and phrases would they use if they were
looking for what you do or sell? Make sure you then have
these in your tags and page content.
And make them relevant to each individual page. ie if one
pages is used for selling hats then your tags etc and page content
for THAT page should be all about hats! Make sure you also put in where you are located- narrow it down so its easier for
google etc to
send you the right traffic (ie that will result in you
actually making money or finding new clients etc!)
You need to track what search prhases people are using when
they find your site, as well as tracking your site stats etc .
I suggest
two free tools - both from Google.
You should be using Google Analytics
(http://www.google.com/analytics/) With Google analytics you
can see exactly the terms that
are
bringing in the visitors, and if you track, exactly which ones
bring
in the 'buyers'.
Besides Google Analytics, you should also open a Google
Webmasters
Account and add your website into your account:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
This tool can be also used to monitor which searches
are most
popular
on your site, and also monitor any problems that Google may find
on
your site when it is crawling it.
Make sure your site is not made up of graphics alone, as these
cannot
be read by the search engine spiders that come
a-crawling. (This is
especially true of graphics that look like text -- these are often used
when a particular font is desired.)
Ensure therefore that you use alt text when placing your
graphics- the search engines can read this!
I tend to put some decent key phrases at the top and
bottom of each page - relevant to that page- but please do
make sure
everything on your page is easy to read and makes
sense- to your site visitors and not just the search engines..
Be patient!
It's most likely going to be a good few months
before you start seeing
much (if any) traffic from Google's
natural results. Don't be discouraged,
but instead use that
time to constantly make your site better than the
other guy's.
Generally speaking, the larger your site- with great information and easy navigation will rank more highly.
Take your time viewing your competition- and where
possible get
your site listed with good quality highly ranked web sites-
quality in-coming links are worth their weight in gold.
Don't swap links with sites that are not related to your site content.
Also spend time creating useful bloggs, and writing quality articles
online
that link to your site. Ezine.com is a great start.
And keep an eye on yahoo answers etc- answer questions
relating to your service as an expert- and get your URL
in there at the same time
We have started to compile a list of free directories listing
Gold Coast Queensland local business and web sites- when your
site is complete we suggest you use ones that offer listings relating
to your services. Sometimes web sites want a reciprocal link - so make sure you have created a links page so that you can put them all on one page. Make this relevant and useful to your site visitors.

You can choose to pay for traffic- for example google adwords
- for many sites this is a good option- for many
others they pay alot for traffic, and not enough actually results
in new business. But try it and see- you set the limit on
how much you will pay for keywords, and your daily limit etc
If it doesnt work for you then you arent tied in.
We'd recommend google adwords rather than any
others eg Overture
Above all remember, you are working toward the future.
Good placement achieved
by doing things the right way
will have staying power over time with
very little additional
effort. Like everything in life, if you spend
the time and money
to do it right to begin with, the long-term results
will always be impressive.

the best
SEOs
are not magicians. They
can't simply place a site at the top of the
engines when there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of others
that offer basically the same thing, and
provide basically the same information. If they could, you'd see a whole
lot more
millionaire SEOs. We can however offer you the most
realistic
and attainable
results, based
on your budget and business goals. Obviously its far easier to gain
a higher website ranking
if you have an unusual business or have a 'niche' and arent offering
the same service as
thousands of others in your local area!
Shoestring Web Design Site Promotion Services aim to
increase site traffic
and drive
more unique visitors to your
site with the main aim of bringing you
not just traffic, but people to your site who then buy your
product
etc.
Even on a shoestring budget you can increase your site
stats and increase
the number
of hits your site receives.
In a nutshell (and this isnt as simple as
it
sounds!) one way to
increase your ranking with sites such as google.com is to
include good
keywords and meta
tags
- within your site pages - that are relevant to your audience and
site content, have quality links to your site, quality page content
and preferably as much free information as possible.
You can submit to search engines for free using
ineedhits.com etc or
use
pay-per-click
services such as good adwords. However you
dont need to spend a fortune
to bring
more visitors to your site.
Most of the best methods involve time and
really making sure
your site follows the searh engine 'rules' - and
knowing that these are different for each one!
Thats why its difficult trying to do it on your own.

A Message from Brad of www.promotesem.com
Search Engine Optimisation is essential to online success! If you aren’t on the first page of the search engines, you’re missing 99% of people searching for your organisation, products or services! It’s important to realise that last month there were over 3.8 Billion searches on Google alone and even if 0.1% of them clicked through to your site, you would see a massive increase in traffic and business... We want our clients to succeed online.
Why does my website need Search Engine Optimisation - SEO?
By optimising your website, we can help you to move up to the top pages of Google, MSN and Yahoo. This means that you should see an increase in the amount of free (organic) visitors to your site. If you find that no one is coming to your website, SEO is the first step in increasing the number of hits you get.
Having been online selling our own products since 1997, we have learnt what works and how to best promote your site to the people you want to reach. Aside from straight search engine optimisation, we can help you to get your site visitors to respond in the way you require whether that is a sale, inquiry or lead. By putting together an online marketing strategy, we can help you to succeed to greater heights online.

Promote Your Business with John Marshall (6:29)
In this week's article, Ross Dunn explains how to save lots of
money in SEO mistakes by involving your SEO expert in three
crucial stages of website design. Our video interview is
fascinating: John Marshall outlines how optimizing and tagging

Costly website problems can be avoided if a business consults a
search engine optimization (SEO) expert before and during website
design. It's hard when prospective clients call us, excited about
an expensive new website, and we have to tell them that their
sites require redesign. Fortunately, however, an SEO expert
usually needs to spend only a few hours to review your web design
at certain crucial stages to save far greater expenses and
headaches later on.
Stage 1: Concept and Marketing Strategy
You probably have a vision of the content and general site
structure you are looking for. Before you meet with your web
designer, contact your SEO expert who can provide you with
marketing insights and ideas that perhaps you hadn't considered.
As a result of this meeting, your website plans could change
dramatically -- for the better. At this stage, a lot of money can
be saved by firming up a more concrete, search engine friendly
site plan.
Stage 2: Presenting the Vision to the Designer
It also helps to have your SEO expert meet with you and your web
designer (in person or by telephone) when you lay out your vision
and site plan. Your SEO expert is there to answer questions and
ensure that your search engine marketing objectives are not
thwarted should a grand design concept change the previous site
plan.
During this meeting the designer will often provide a time
schedule for deliverables and explain when you can weigh-in on
each step of the design process. In the presence of the web
designer, ask your SEO expert at what checkpoints it is best for
him or her to check in on the progress. Set up those checkpoints
and clearly state that the design cannot continue without an
official sign-off from your SEO expert. Without this it is far too
easy for the design process to build momentum and breeze by these
key checkpoints. Important: Even if your designer claims to have
SEO experience, you're still wise to include an independent SEO
expert. Your designer's SEO techniques may well be out of date.
Stage 3: Final Draft Review
Before you sign-off and agree to your final website, make certain
to clear the final product with your SEO expert. At this stage any
SEO mistakes that may have made it through the design and review
process can be caught before final sign-off. Once you sign off on
the final website, subsequent corrections get very costly.
There is no question that money can be saved -- and in fact made -
- from having a search engine optimizer involved. After all, if
your website is search engine friendly right out of the gate, you
are one major step closer to profitable search engine rankings.

the typical SEO problems with new websites, "How to Avoid an SEO
Horror Story on Your New Site with Ross Dunn" (6:25).
